Doug Gutro for Quincy School Committee

Dear Friends,

I'm running for Quincy School Committee.

As a father of two boys in the Quincy Public School System, I have a vested interest in working to sustain and improve our public school system. I’ve seen, first hand, the value of our school system and recognize its importance to our children as well as to our a community as a whole.

During my time on the City Council, I’ve had the privilege to visit all eleven elementary schools, five middle schools, and both high schools.  I’ve been proud to cast votes to bolster school budgets, fund capital improvements, and support important programs like literacy, media services, ELL, foreign language, and music. I’d welcome the chance to continue that advocacy as a member of the Quincy School Committee.

I believe my experience in City Government and first hand knowledge of our school system will be helpful at a time when two long time School Committee members are stepping down.  As a parent, I wish to express my gratitude to Ms. Isola and Ms. Mahoney for their many years of service to city’s school system.

As a ward councilor, I often said - you can name a street in my district, and I could name someone who lives there and what the issues were that matter most to them. I pledge to bring the same attention and understanding to the unique needs of each neighborhood school. I’d welcome the opportunity to listen and learn about those issues from parents at PTO meetings across the city.

Quincy has many terrific teachers, administrators and staff working each day to improve educational opportunities for our children.  They are extraordinary people and an important resource with ideas for improvements - I welcome their input

Thank you,
